Marina - founder of the eco cleaning company.

We all want to make a difference by the way we live, what we can contribute and what legacy we leave behind.

It's hard to know what decisions to make regarding the environment and choices can be a bit overwhelming - sometimes our small contributions can seem to pale into insignificance.

We may be tired of feeling guilty and pressured about whether we are doing 'enough' or even the right things to help the environment. So this column is about opening discussions and getting feedback, about informing ourselves

We can all contribute in some way to create a better environment, both in people's homes and in some small way in the world, this is our starting point.

My work background is in architectural draughting, pre school and after school childcare, tourism and in the real estate industry. I also have training and experience in the natural health field spanning the last 30 years.

So, what can we do? I hope to be able to answer your questions on eco care in the home and making a healthier environment for you and your family.

Tips for the clean green home:

  • Avoid antibacterial products: Antibacterial soap and cleaners are registered pesticides (UK standards ) and can do more harm than good.
  • Play it safe: Choose PVC-free toys, to protect children from harmful chemicals, and buy pens and paints that are certified safe for children.

I'll leave you with this thought - "There is a reason that your eyes water and you have to hold your breath with all those harsh (chemical) cleaners." Says Eric Ryan founder of Method, the ecological home care company "They contain a lot of toxic chemicals, so you're polluting while you are cleaning - you're using poison to make your house healthier. And that doesn't make sense" !
